Shauna Bird-Dunn: Nurturing a Love of Learn…Does it Take a Superhero (2010, Salt Lake City)
Yes! It does take a super hero. It takes Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman is simply a mild-mannered female with three special attributes . . . a commitment to the right, a noble heritage, and access to special tools. Learn how these accessible and empowering traits, developed and applied in your home, can inspire a Love of Learning and Leadership Education that just might save the world. Come and find the superhero in you!
Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do!
Cyndi Hampton: Simulations: The Whole is Bigger than the Parts (2009, Salt Lake City)
What exactly is a simulation for love of learning phase kids? What are the parts and how do they go together? What exactly is debriefing and why is it so important? A large part of the population learns best through simulations and you can provide those experiences for your children and youth. Simulations that teach and are remembered can play a huge role in making your children's education much more effective by burning it into their neuron pathways. Come to this class to hear about and understand the plan, the process and the implementation. Warning: Anyone averse to having fun while homeschooling should not attend.
Daniela Larsen: Love of Learning (2009, Salt Lake City)
Learn how to create a "culture of curiosity" in your home. How to use your children's interests and gifts to inspire reading, math and other basics. Inspiration tips and ideas await!
Candice Winters: Core and Love of Learning – Tried and True Basics (2009, Salt Lake City)
Do you have young children? Are you new to homeschooling? This class will give you ideas on how you can create an atmosphere in your home that will help your young ones build good character and develop a love for learning that will stay with them, strengthen them, and guide them throughout their lives.
Marlene Peterson: Stories that Build Statesmen (2010, Salt Lake City)
"The destiny of the world is determined less by the battles that are lost and won than by the stories it loves and believes in.”
This workshop will explore one of the most powerful means we have to shape and influence the lives of our children—the story. Stories change lives. They help us make sense of our world and open up possibilities beyond the limited view of our own experience. Facts go straight to the head. Stories go straight to the heart. When our reservoir of stories is broad and deep, we find something to hold onto and draw from no matter what life throws at us. Arming our children with the right kinds of stories will inspire them to rise to greatness and make it possible for them to maintain hope in an increasingly fearful world.
Mary Biesinger: Mentoring “En Masse” (2010, Salt Lake City)
Whether you have a large family, a large mentoring group, or just need some basic coping strategies amidst the hecticness of homeschooling, I will share with you some key concepts, resources, and ideas that have helped me "mentor en masse" while still applying genius mentality to "the one"—even when that one is me. A basic "crash" course on how to not only survive, but thrive!
Andrew Pudewa: Nurturing Excellent Writers and Speakers – The Power of Linguistic Patterns (2010, Salt Lake City)
Many parents think that good readers will naturally become good writers. Others think that writing talent is just that—a natural ability—some have it; others don't. Both are myths. History and modern research show very clearly how good writers have developed. What are the two most critical things you can do as a parent to develop a high level of aptitude, from a young age and into high school? With humor and insight, Andrew will share the two easy but unbelievably powerful things you can do to build language patterns and nurture competent communicators in your family.
Bonnie Jones: Great Souls: Arts in a Leadership Education (2009, Salt Lake City)
What is beauty? How is taste acquired? When is it too early to introduce children to the arts? What are “the arts”? Why are they essential to a leadership education? We’ll discuss these questions and more as we consider how to mentor your students or yourself in the arts. This class will not teach you how to produce painters, pianists, or poets. We will focus on how to produce “great souls,” who love truth and beauty. Learn how to appreciate and love the arts, how to accumulate experience and knowledge in the arts, and how the arts make a difference in our lives, homes, community and world.
Jodie Palmer: Reading, Writing…or Relationship (2009, Salt Lake City)
Are you spending a significant amount of time correcting your children, just to see the same behavior over and over again? Are your best efforts to teach them falling on deaf or disinterested ears? Is there something keeping you from having a successful homeschool environment, but you just can't put your finger on it? This workshop gets down to the fundamental elements of successful teaching. If you want to see a significant shift in your homeschool environment, come to "Reading, Writing or . . . Relationships."
Michelle Harkey: Math Encounter (2009, Salt Lake City)
Math with Core and Love of Learning children is fun, exciting and easy, but you’ll have to experience it to believe it. Come learn to inspire your children to enjoy and understand math as you work with and better understand math in this hands-on workshop. Together we will explore how to present the basics of math using manipulatives, games and books. We will also work through math questions involving “that whole x-thing” (aka beginning algebra) and topics such as fractions and area that youth will likely encounter in the Core and LoL phases. You’ll get real tools for real world application in this workshop featuring math fundamentals and fun. Come be a part of my class – it will be rewarding.
