Shining Light Commonwealth
What is a Commonwealth?
A commonwealth school is a group of families who form an organization to
help educate their scholar aged youth. We meet weekly for scholar
projects which are mentored by parents. Our goal is to inspire our
youth to get a great leadership education. We use topics such as
Shakespeare and the U.S. Constitution to teach Vision, Mission,
Abilities, and Skills.
Shining Light Commonwealth Vision Statement:
Shining Light Commonwealth is a
Christ-centered community of families dedicated to leadership
education. Our mission is to inspire self-governance, scholarship and
public virtue in each of our members through mentoring and positive
peer influence.
The name Shining Light comes from
Matthew 5:14-16 "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on
an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a
bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in
the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Our abbreviation, SLC, also signifies our location in Salt Lake County, UT.
We meet weekly on Tuesdays at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 4290 W 5415 S, Kearns, UT.
